  • Show them pictures/photos of dinosaurs in books and encourage them to recognise the similar features of image and toy.
  • Talk about the dinosaur in terms of size, colour, sounds they might have made and features like claws, wings, spines, tails etc.
  • Encourage imaginative play in combination with other items from the First Friends collection.
  • Introduce vocabulary such as 'sitting' 'running' 'roaring' etc according to the different actions and sounds the dinosaurs can demonstrate as you play together.
  • Talk about dinosaurs and explain that we don't see dinosaurs anymore but they once lived on earth before humans did!
  • Talk about what the dinosaurs might have been like - share simple knowledge such as the T-Rex was very fierce, the Pterodactyl could fly and the Brontosaurus liked to eat leaves and trees.
  • Ask your child if he or she has a favourite dinosaur and find out what he or she likes about that one. Encourage your child to talk about the dinosaur's different features and abilities
  • Encourage lots of pretend play with the dinosaurs, letting your child take the lead, but assisting with ideas if necessary.
